Purple Island – Mangroves

Price: ? €.

Duration: ?

Serene and nestled in the heart of nature to the north of Al Khor, Purple Island boasts lush mangroves and abundant vegetation. It’s a place where you can reconnect with nature , far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Enjoy peaceful strolls, family picnics or even kayak excursions. There’s something for every member of the family.

The island’s name derives from its leading role in the purple dye industry, under the control of the Kassites in the second millennium BC. This industry flourished because of the association of the color purple with royalty. Today, the island offers an ideal setting for hiking. Visitors can also rent a kayak or camp (which is permitted on site) for a close-to-nature experience.

If you’re planning a visit to this island, you’ll want to take advantage of the pleasantly cool weather between November and February.

The island’s remarkable natural beauty makes it an ideal location for birdwatching, marine life watching and nature walks. Enjoy the experience of kayaking through the mangroves, or cross the wooden bridge that links the island to small hills and Purple Island beach.

It is important to note the absence of facilities and shade on the island. Prepare yourself accordingly by bringing personal belongings, a hat or other sun protection accessory, comfortable shoes, and above all, be sure to leave the island in the same condition as you found it: take your garbage with you when you leave.
