This tour focuses on Richard Serra’s sculpture. Breathtaking sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve in the desert. Ras Brouq – a peninsula on Qatar’s west coast – bears the remains of prehistoric human occupation. The magnificent and emblematic rock formations of Ras Brouq offer a glimpse of a prehistoric landscape. And in between, you can see the Mushroom Rock formation, the village of Zekreet and the ruins of the Zekreet fort.

Zekreet Fort Ruins

Zekreet is a village in north-western Qatar. Zekreet Fort is located on Qatar’s west coast, 90 km from Doha. The fort has a very special layout, showing the two different phases of construction. Originally, the fort was built as a simple square with no towers at each corner. In a second phase of development, towers were added to the fort’s four outer corners.

Internationally renowned artist Richard Serra adds the stunning sculpture East-West/West-East to the desert landscape, bringing art to the people.East-West/West-East has become a celebrated landmark in Qatar since its installation in 2014. This breathtaking sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve stretches for over a kilometer and consists of four steel plates, each over fourteen meters high.

Ras Abrouq

The region is distinguished by its unusual landscape of white cliffs. The shape and color of the landscape are the result of the erosion of soft limestone layers, while the white wind-shaped cliffs and bizarre geological forms, such as the mushroom-shaped hills, make the region unique and special to Qatar.
